The World of Mantras

I love mantras. They are supportive of all four bodies, and really support in rewriting and updating your neurological system. It’s one of the surest ways to shift old stories and belief systems, which frees you from pain from traumatic times in the past.

To pick a mantra, whether it’s to say throughout the day or to focus on in an intentional mantra meditation, there are four rules I want to offer you as guidelines to pick and utilize mantras in the most effective way for lasting results.

  1. No negatives

This is such a crucial rule to follow. Your subconscious mind cannot compute negatives. While your conscious mind may feel empowered by hearing the phrase "I am not my past", your subconscious mind (the part of your mind that controls your automatic functioning - breathing, heartbeat, and especially self-talk) will only hear "I am my past". Instead of focusing on what you don't want, focus on what you do want instead. Instead of "I am not my past", try "I am in the present moment" or "I am safe in the present moment".

  1. Always talk in present tense

You are training your brain to think certain positive thoughts, so focusing them on the future will never allow you to feel them in the present. You get to tell your brain exactly what you want, and you want to believe these new statements in the now. Instead of saying "I deserve financial abundance", consider saying "I am financially abundant". Turn "I will be a powerful CEO" into "I am a powerful CEO".

  1. Use Mala bead

These are a prayer and meditation device, similar to rosary prayers beads, to keep track and keep you focused by engaging your physical body with the words you’re speaking.

  1. Follow the 11,000 rule

When it comes to reshaping one's belief system, consistency is key. Think about this: however many times you have thought the negative belief, you get to say the positive belief twice as many times. Think about it in terms of a double-ended weighing pan. The side of your old belief is outweighing the side of the new belief. You get to say it as many times as you’ve said the other belief to make the scale balance out, then double it to make the other side the clear winner. 11,000 mantras is a magic number that tends to hit the mark to really make an impact on the neurological transmitter holding the old belief.

When it comes to picking a mantra, I would think about one particular pain point you would like to create healing and transformation around, and find a statement that embodies the new belief you would like to believe.

Here are some examples:

  1. I will only love myself when I lose 30 pounds. -> I love myself at every size, and am worthy of love at every stage of health.

  2. I will get my parent’s approval when I get married and have kids. -> I am worthy of love just as I am in this moment.

  3. I need to make ___ amount of money or else I will be unstable. -> I am safe and stable as I attract increasing abundance in my life.

Give it a try, and let me know if you want me to look at the mantra you wish to focus on. I’ll be happy to offer any chiropractic adjustments if there are any needed before you start on your mantra journey!
